Once the Nautilus was travelling to 1976, it had been right in the center of the Quarta movement Crisis. Esteemed watchmakers who’d for hundreds of years been producing highly complicated mechanical movements all of a sudden discovered that the sport had altered, because the public clamoured for highly accurate-plus much more affordable-quarta movement movements. In response to the crisis, Patek Philippe collaborated with legendary watch manufacturing company Gérald Genta, who’d already created a game-altering watch out for Audemars Piguet within the guise from the Royal Oak. Allowing the first sports watch within the brand’s lengthy and distinguished history, the Nautilus was created.
The Nautilus featured the distinctive porthole-inspired design which was Genta’s trademark. It combined the sportiness of stainless with ultra-high finish design and engineering, and grew to become an long lasting classic within the brand’s collection. Now, 4 decades later, Patek Philippe is celebrating the anniversary of their legendary sports watch with two new special edition models for 2016.
Restricted to just 700 pieces, the 5711/1P marks the occasion in platinum, instead of the stainless from the original watch. Calculating 40mm across, it’s an homage towards the 3700/1A of 1976, and it is similarly easy and superbly understated, having a discreet date window at 3 o’clock. The 5976/1G meanwhile, that is numbered to at least one,300 pieces, is really a shade bigger at 44mm, and is available in white-colored gold. The 5711/1P is operated by the wonderful automatic calibre 324 S C, as the CH 28-520 C from the 5976/1G includes a flyback chronograph, using a column wheel and vertical clutch. The chronograph subdials are cleverly arranged in a single position above 6 o’clock.
The dials for are dark blue, and have the familiar embossed style of the Nautilus. A discreet 40 year anniversary emblem can also be engraved in to the dial, that is interspersed with indices made from gemstone. Timepieces really are a fitting tribute towards the legacy from the Nautilus-a vintage sports watch with a stylish and long lasting design.
